The Real Meaning of Memorial Day
As you celebrate today take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and spend some time contemplating the sacrifices that were made so that we can live in this magnificent country. Remember, no matter how dire things seem in the overly politically charged environment today there are many who have made the ultimate sacrifice to make it possible for us to live in the greatest country on earth.
Memorial Day has a special meaning and I urge those of you who read this article to take the time to Google two things today while you are on your electronic device:
Number 1: Take the time to Google the “Meaning of Memorial Day”
noun “a day on which those who died in active military service are remembered, traditionally observed on May 30 but now officially observed on the last Monday in May.”
Number 2: Take the time to Google “ United States Military Casualties of War”
(selectWikipedia)
Some eye opening statistics will populate in Wikipedia with regards to not only the detail of information it provides but the enormity of the numbers of soldiers who have lost their lives or been casualties since our War for Independence in 1775. Regardless of how anyone feels about the conflicts and their justification American Military Members have lost their lives in armed conflicts around the globe since the creation of the United States. They deserve our respect and remembrance.
Over 1.3 million US military members have lost their lives in service to this country since 1775. In addition there are an additional 1.4 million who have been wounded and over 40,000 still considered missing. Please take moment today to remember them and honor them for their service. Whether you are attending Memorial Day events, barbeques or sporting events, take time to honor the fallen United States Military.
For my part I will say a prayer today for those who have lost their lives and the United States of America who they defended and paid the ultimate price.
