The Real Meaning Behind "The Voice's" 10th Season Finale

The Real Meaning Behind "The Voice's" 10th Season Finale

Tonight the 10th Season of NBC's "The Voice" came to a finale. While I have always been aware of the show, I've never watched it before and it never meant anything to me...until this season

Why?

Because this season, a long-time friend of mine was competing for the crown - Mister Laith Al-Saadi

Laith is one of the most talented musicians and performers of this lifetime, and he had a chance to demonstrate this on a national stage...albeit NBC's national stage.

In the end, Laith competed in the finals and did not win. He placed fourth.

The simplicity of it is this...Laith's final placement is not a reflection of him and his performances, but rather a reflection of The Voice's audience, and NBC's agenda.

Because I know Laith personally and prefer his taste in music over the others, it's not realistic for me to be objective about him in the competition. I made a point to view the other contestants (and I was not as impressed), but my vote and my interest in Laith winning is not what's important.

What's important is the journey Laith endured and how it impacted others, and the show itself. I know I speak for others in stating that Laith made an impact not only on The Voice, but also on mainstream pop culture itself.

Laith broke the mold and revealed his soul, but he didn't sell his soul to the media.

This is not a knock to the others in the competition. I suspect their tribes and followers are either basking in the sun of their glory, or opining like I am about not finishing first.

Your placement on The Voice is not what this competition is about. The placement is only a label, but the journey you took along the way, and how this impacts your life and others, this is what it's all about.

Of the four finalists, which will go on to inspire minds and transform hearts? Of the ones that do, how long and lasting will their impact be?

Congratulations to Laith Al-Saadi for the opportunity to compete, and for making a real difference. Your performances were inspiring and you had nothing to lose.
