Real lights, "Fake lights", DMX and UE4
I had a few ides i wanted to explore when it comes to merging digital lights with real ones. Especially using the DMX output functions recently introduced in Unreal Engine. And so i bought a super cheap green screen and setup a poor mans studio in our livingroom. Still very early tests but i thought id share some progress as i go along.
Heres a setup where i use a real torch together with a torch light in UE4.
Below i made a wifi DMX-Artnet reciever using a arduino. I then scripted UE4 to control the physical light stick via DMX, to always match the digital one. The colorwheel is scripted to the vive touch controller pad.
Ive got some more interesting ideas and lots of refinement to do so more updates to come. Also im currently using my Sony a6000, which is struggling with the lowlight and not the easiest footage to chroma key, (the cheap green screen doesn't help either). hoping to source a better video camera soon. And perhaps iron the screen :)
