Let me paint a picture....
On July 17th I returned to work after 8, almost 9, glorious weeks off. I gave birth to my first child. She is perfect in every way. Coming back to work and leaving that beautiful child is not easy. Although working has its upsides, such as eating in peace, I miss that sweet face all day. So, needless to say I am emotional and stressed out as we get into our new routine.
Well, my husband works 12 hour graveyard shifts. Last week he worked Sunday until Thursday mid- morning. I am single parent basically until he is off work. Hard work! So emotional and alone basically, seems like the perfect time to add more to my plate right?
Enter our dog Darla, She developed a limp and we tried medicine to see if it was just a sprain, but the limp still remained. So on Tuesday I rushed home to get her in to do x-rays and some laser therapy pain procedure. Then when I went to pick her up with my infant child in tow the doctor informed that she did indeed tear her ACL. Not only that when a dog tears their ACL, they almost always tear the other one within a year.
So surgery was scheduled for Wednesday morning and thank goodness the vet offered to keep her there that night. I am sure he took one look at me last week and thought poor thing. So what does this have to do with insurance?
The surgery was going to cost us $3500-$3900. In addition I had just spent $500 on her x-rays and pain procedure. $4000 ON A DOG! She also is going to need physical therapy. I was gymnast for 20 years and I didn't even tear my ACLs.
I just had a baby, I need to save for college and I had a girl, so add a wedding fund in there. I hope to have more kids so add on the costs. I love my dog though. She is the sweetest little thing. I do not want to see her in pain.
Here is the insurance part. I pay $60 a month for pet insurance and they are reimbursing me 90% of all of that and will cover her second knee when it goes. In addition to a whole other slew of things that will inevitably go wrong with her. I LOVE INSURANCE!
Still believe it is ok for clients to not have insurance deemed optional or unimportant? I am now switching to talking about life insurance. I can guarantee it will be a much worse week than my first week back to work, for loved ones of your client if they do not have life insurance. JUST BUY THE INSURANCE!! It matters and makes a difference.
Unfortunately we all die at some time and are not immortal. It is an insurance that will get used. Act now before it is too late. Are you prepared?
