Real Life Gossip Girls: Paris Fashion Week and Selena Drama

The beginning of March among the fashionistas in the world usually signifies one thing only - Paris Fashion Week. It’s the last station of the runway pilgrimage, following New York, London and Milan, and it reveals trends for the upcoming autumn/winter season.

Known for innovations, this year was no exception. Robot dogs, collections changing under UV light, and a lot of gossip :) Let’s check it out.

Louis Vuitton and Avril Lavigne - what?

When we observe the topics discussed that got the most reach, we can see 2 fashion houses standing out - Luis Vuitton and Chanel.

Luis Vuitton took everyone to Musee d'Orsay for its fall-winter catwalk show, sending a modern lineup of playful, sculptural looks down a runway designed to evoke a Paris street.?

Exploring notions of French style, Nicolas Ghesquiere, artistic director of the label's womenswear collections, played with volumes of clothing and illusions of reality, including boots that looked like black high heel shoes worn with white socks and fuzzy coats resembling blazers.?

Chanel and Virginie Viard, on the other hand, gave an ode to trends the clients know and love - and provided a gentle, romantic, and a bit bohemian experience. With camelia, that was “more than a theme”, the show took place in Grand Palais éphémère.?

How did Avril Lavigne turn up in the equation?

Well, as we can see, her name was mentioned the most next to the famous fashion brands, but not for fashion.

It seems that the pop-punk star was the talk of the week because of her new relationship with Tyga, who we can find in our Word Cloud (scroll up) as well.

A new line of clothing or a new boyfriend - apparently, both can give you a similar reach in the media. Fair? Well, the debate about it is on.

Robot dogs and UV light

In a struggle to stand out, 2 fashion brands introduced something super innovative.

Coperni’s demonstrated their fascination with futurism by adding robot dogs to their fashion show.

It went viral, and the emojis most frequently used express the surprise:

Another brand got a lot of attention for their innovation: Anrelage showed something truly unique. On the runway were models clad in clothes by the Japanese label, while a bar of UV rays revealed the actual colors of the garments.

And overall, the public liked it very much:

All in all, Paris Fashion Week didn’t disappoint.

Until the next round of fashion and gossip (or fashion gossip).

What’s happening with Selena Gomez, Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber on the socials?

In the fashion world, brands typically significantly influence the latest trends and styles that will be popular in the upcoming season. However, in the case of Selena Gomez and Hailey Baldwin, the narrative unfolding over the past 20 days has been driven largely by their respective fan bases rather than their personal brands.?

According to data from Determ and numerous headlines across digital gossip platforms, a social media kerfuffle involving Selena, Kylie, and Hailey has caused quite a stir among fans in recent weeks.

Nevertheless, it is important to note that much of the information circulating on social media about the supposed feud between the three women has been sensationalized and lacks verifiable evidence.

It started with Selena’s video of her laminated eyebrows, followed by Kylie’s story with a text over her eyebrows that said ‘this was an accident???” which fans interpreted as a dig at Selena. Kylie then responded to a TikTok user speculating by writing, "this is reaching. no shade towards Selena ever and I didn't see her eyebrow posts! u guys are making something out of nothing. this is silly."

Hailey then added fuel to the fire by posting a TikTok video featuring herself, Kendall Jenner, and Justine Skye lip-syncing to a song with the lyrics, “I’m not saying she deserved it, but I’m saying God’s timing is always right.”

The drama was further exacerbated when Selena announced on Feb. 23 that she was taking a break from social media. Fans were convinced that these two celebrities were cyberbullying Selena. That was the same day she dethroned Kylie Jenner as the most followed woman on Instagram.?

Why do we care about this now?

Because according to Barnum, any publicity is good publicity, and we wanted to see how this feud affected Selena’s and Hailey’s brands. Since people were inclined to judge Hailey in this feud, it’s no surprise that Selena’s following on Instagram skyrocketed and mentions of Rare Beauty, her beauty brand, too.

Here’s the visible spike in mentions for Rare Beauty in our media monitoring tool.

But what about Rhode, Hailey Bieber’s beauty brand?

Seems like this alleged drama did bring up some negative mentions among Twitter users, but overall didn’t really change the course of the brand. Most mentions around the brand are still positive.

So what’s the gist of this whole mess?

One more time, because these words might be the wisest Kylie Jenner has ever shared online: “u guys are making something out of nothing. this is silly.”
