Real, hard, actual infrastructure

Real, hard, actual infrastructure

I’ve had a great couple of days at the HETT conference. Technology, digitisation, data - all of these things can do so much to help the NHS help us lead healthier and happier lives.?

The one thing there wasn’t enough conversation about was the digital plumbing. Every clever app or electronic patient record system needs secure and reliable connectivity if it is to be trusted and useful.?

In the UK we have roughly?1900 hospitals - mostly built post-war out of masses of concrete. Hospitals are pretty much the most important buildings in society to have world class digital connectivity but because of the laws of physics they are also some of the hardest to connect.

Data usage is growing 100% year on year for consumers generally but in hospitals this number could easily be ten times higher.?

So if the problem statement is 1900 critically important concrete buildings in need of world class digital infrastructure... then what is the answer??

The answer is real, hard, actual infrastructure. Investment in future-proofed networks which connect patients, nurses, devices - phials of medicine even.??

There are various ways of doing this - technologically and commercially. Wifi has a place within hospitals but it is a hyper-connected, cellular 4G/5G network that is required. A network with coverage from all four of the mobile network operators.?

Freshwave deliver exactly that - we finance and build multi-operator networks where they are most needed, regardless of how challenging the infrastructure is.?

Which is why I'm at HETT this week. To tell everyone about the fabulous company I work for and help hospitals get the digital connectivity they need.?
