The Real Face of a “PRODUCT”

The Real Face of a “PRODUCT”

My case study is based on a FMCG company who manufacture Bottled Water but market it as “Produced By”.

Case Study element is “WATER”

§ In this report I will focus on the key facts of original product (Primary) and Secondary Product.

§ Nature of Manufactured By and Produced By

§ Are customers being our main product?

It will help to modify the lookout at the Business Development and Marketing strategies from the scratch.

I have put Customers (Primary Product) as A and Items/Objects as B (Secondary Product)

So, before I move further in my findings, it is imperative to understand the true nature of it.

“What is a Product”?

In a layman language, it is something which we USE for our needs.

Let me elaborate more in a technical definition.

Product is ideally an item or an article and a source of business for companies, earned buy using its customers , which is manufactured to fulfill the demand of the targeted market segmentation and to be “used by” them with the help of using company’s expertise, tools, skills, manpower, equipment to get the final desirable outcome. Further adding to it, it is a tangible form to lure customers to pay for that item or article for their needs.

So, coming to the point in relation to the item “WATER”

It should not be called as a product as it is naturally available and with the help of company’s various tools and expertise, it is bottled in a way to satisfy the customers demands or needs.

For example, 5 Gallon water bottle (20 Ltrs.), and PET Bottle with a water capacity of 1.5 Ltrs, 500Ml, 200Ml, etc.

Pertaining to the case element, The Primary product of a company is its Customers and Water is the Secondary product of a water company.

Let me explain this with another example of Social Media Platforms.

Just imagine can Facebook operate its connecting services without having any user? No. The Users are its primary product from where it is earning business (Data Collection is the main source of business to all social media platforms). Secondary comes its services.

Similarly, a Beauty Products Company uses its customers to buy their manufactured items.

“Customers cannot be built according to a product. Product has to be developed as per the market segmentation”

Conclusion: Case A uses Secondary Product to fulfill their needs and Company uses Primary Product to fulfill their business goals.

This is the synopsis of my understanding I made on the Real face of Product. If you have any suggestions or comments, then please DM for the same. It will be appreciated
