Why real estate? This question is every time asked when my friends and family when they know I am into real estate.
It may seem strange because my past experience was in the corporate world in Human Resources. People cannot see the connection.
The connection was made long ago and the right opportunity arise until much later!

My first encounter in the world of real estate started at the age of 15 when I heard my dad talking about the land deal.??My dad had bought a small piece of land from a family friend with the little money he had saved. ?He had known this person for many years and trusted him completely.? After buying the land, my father wanted to build our dream family home.? My aunt recommended a Malay contractor from her kampong (village) and said his workmanship is good. My dad engaged him and paid him RM 12,000 as the deposit.?We were all so excited about the thought of moving to a new home.?My dad was to retire the following year and it was crucial that we have our own home.??
The contractor brought some of the building material and stacked it on the land.?Bang! Hell broke loose after that. ?The local authorities rejected the application because there was no access road in the plan.?The good friend of my father who sold the land did not do his job properly.?He did not apply for a separate title and he did not mark the access road as common.?It was still under his name!??When my dad approached him, he asked for additional money.?Money was paid but he kept saying that it is being done and delayed the whole process.?When my dad retired the following year,? we did not have a home to go to!?We had to rent a house.?The contractor who was supposed to build the house refused to refund the money.??My dad was heartbroken and spent most of his time sleeping.?At that time, I didn’t realize that he was depressed.?He passed away 8 years later.??Unfortunately, till his death day, the friend did not keep to his promises.
