Absolutely not.
Real Estate Agents are not obsolete.
But I guess it depends, if you are buying a tract home with a developer warranty perhaps not, but that developer will have representation. Are you being represented?
If you are buying in areas like the San Francisco Bay Area or LA for example (my turf) you best have a Realtor to guide you through the process. Clients thank us all the time for our skill, knowledge and experience. I have been practicing real estate for over 30 years and part owner in our firm for 12. The questions, even Realtors ask on behalf of themselves as well as their clients re emphasizes that agents are in fact VERY MUCH needed and NOT obsolete. My partner and husband is the Broker of our firm and he spends hours a day answering questions from agents, buyers and sellers. And oftentimes he gets on a call with our attorney to gain even more insight into a question.
Buying a home is much more than finding a home online. That is the easy part, but winning that home, reviewing and understanding inspections, going through the lending, title and escrow process and well into the closing, it’s not something a machine can assist with. Buying and selling real estate is a pricey endeavor, and after it is said and done you don’t want to end up in litigation or lose your investment.
