Air is the most vital element of human life.

Clean air is of the utmost importance to avoid various health problems, including respiratory diseases such as asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Especially during the pandemic, clean and safe air was put on the table.

However, rapid urbanization and industrialization, coupled with an increase in the number of vehicles, have significantly contributed to air pollution around the globe.

According to the Statistic market report, the Size of the smart air purifier market worldwide from 2017 to 2025 was developed from 4.51 billion U.S. dollars to 11.4 U.S. dollars.

However, as this data was calculated in 2018, which didn't including any effects of Covid19.

As of 3:59 pm CET, 20 November 2020, there have been 56,623,643 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 1,355,963 deaths, reported to WHO.

Therefore, it's no doubt the whole market increase volume of air purifier should be extremely higher than the above-predicted value.

According to FACT.MR, North America, and Europe collectively account for more than 60% of the total market value.

Early adopters of air purifiers are pioneering research and development initiatives for novel air purification methods. These two regions are projected to grow at impressive growth rates.

Asia Pacific offers gainful opportunities with a double-digit growth rate of over 11% and 12% CAGR for East Asia and South Asia & Oceania respectively.

Surging air pollution levels in countries such as India and China are propelling demand growth for air purifiers in the regional market. The increasing disposable income of health-conscious millennial consumers is further adding to the growth of the air purifier market from 2019 to 2029.

The overall air purification equipment market in the Asia-Pacific region will reach 34.52 billion U.S. dollars in 2026, with an average annual growth rate of 24.5%.

Thanks to the rapid development of China and India, and the air quality requirements of small Southeast Asian countries.

At the same time, Japan, South Korea, and Australia are also growing steadily.

According to APAC; 2016, distribution of the air purifier market in the Asia-Pacific region in 2016 and a forecast for 2026, by filter technology.

There are mainly 4 types of air purifiers on the market and the specific percentages refer to the above photo.

European Market

Compared with the sharp increase in the Asia-pacific market, the European market increase is relatively more stable. For example with UK and France market:

Types and some suppliers on the market

There are many types of air purifiers on the market, the price ranges from dozens USD to ten thousand USD. When choosing one for your business or for your project, the guidelines and some main suppliers below may help you select the best suited to your needs.

Normally, there are below basic types of air purifiers on the market:

1. Electronic ionizer purifier

2. UV purifiers

3. Ozone purifier

4. HEPA air purifiers

I will introduce them one by one.

1.Electronic ionizers

Ions are molecules or atoms that contain an electrical charge and exist in nature in various sizes. Small ions only last between 30 and 300 seconds before losing their charge but are extremely active.

Small ion densities range from 900 to 1,100 negative ions and 1,000 to 1,200 positive ions per cubic centimeter (ions/cm3) in pristine natural environments. At sea level, ion density is typically around 500 negative and 600 positive ions/cm3. In cities and inside buildings ion levels drop by 80% to 95% and can be barely detectable in small spaces.

As ion density decreases, so do the air quality. By increasing the quantity of both positively and negatively charged small oxygen ions, air quality is improved. This is the basis of Plasma Air's bipolar ionization technology.

2.UV purifiers

The research shows that ultraviolet light is mainly used to kill microorganisms by damaging the radiation function and destroying the nucleic acid of microorganisms, so as to reach the effect of disinfection function. The effect of ultraviolet light on nucleic acid can lead to the breaking between bonds and chains, cross-linking strands, and forming into photo chemicals, which changes the biological activity of DNA and makes microorganisms unable to replicate themselves. Such damage produced by UVC light is fatal.

So when disinfecting articles with ultraviolet light, the surface of the article should be directly irradiated by the light with a sufficient exposure dose. Noted that UVC light must not irradiate to people to avoid damages.

3.Ozone generator air purifier

Since ozone is highly reactive in the air, it’s almost impossible (at least with the technology that exists today) to store it for a long time. As such, it needs to be generated on-site using highly technical machines which are called ozone generators, ozone air purifiers, or simply, ozone machines. The science is quite straightforward.

An ozone purifier takes normal oxygen (O2) from the air and converts it into Ozone (O3) by running an electric charge through it. Electricity causes the oxygen molecules to rearrange themselves into the ozone we know and love. It’s actually why there’s an increase of ozone in the air after lightning storms. Since the application of ozone machines range from home use to hospitals and hotels, these devices come in a variety of sizes, to cover both large and small spaces.

4.HEPA air purifiers

High-Efficiency Particulate Arresting (HEPA) filters have been around since the 1950s to clean indoor areas. HEPA filters may be an important part of alleviating symptoms that may be caused by dust, dander, bacteria, molds, and other airborne pollutants.

HEPA air purifiers stop mold spores as well as many bacteria and viruses and of course larger items such as dust. Most air purifiers claim to be 99.97% efficient at removing particles 0.3 microns from the air that passes through the HEPA filter. The operative phrase is "pass-through." If the airflow does not have an opportunity to pass through the HEPA filter it will not be cleaned. Therefore the claim of 99.97% of all 0.3 and larger particles being removed is not accurate in poorly designed HEPA air purifiers where some of the airflows may pass around the HEPA filter and return to the room not cleaned. Thus the HEPA filter should specify that at least 90-95% of the airflow that enters the air purifier goes through the HEPA filter.

Pure HEPA air purifiers do not remove odors, chemicals, or gasses. These are substances that are smaller than the 0.3-micron holes in a HEPA filter. Therefore typical HEPA air purifiers have some level of activated carbon-based material to absorb odors and chemicals that will not be caught by the HEPA element itself.
