Real AI Aint just ChatGPT. From GW’s AI Executive Workbench…

For the past 18 months, I have been researching the use of AI, and my findings parallel a recent article in the WSJ by Andy Kessler. It professed that AI was on the downside of popularity, and he called it “listening to a dial tone.”

I think that’s a misnomer, and it also tells me we are far away from where he describes AI today, probably 1-2 decades. That’s because my research shows his viewpoint is missing some important facts that, when added to his dialogue, expand the lifecycle of AI.

  • Everyone, including Fortune CEOs, thinks AI is ChatGPT. It isn’t.

o?? Tie this fact to the one shown in Saturday’s WSJ about hardware required for AI, and the need to upgrade to new computers by companies using ChatGPT and LLMs in general.

  • Less than 1% of small business companies understand what AI is all about, and are leaving large ROI on their plant floors. They only believe AI is automation. My stats don’t include large business companies, but I think it’s about the same as SMB.
  • ?Less than 3% of SMB companies will actually approach real AI automation within the next 7 years, but the reason is that the technical talent required is not available for them, as it’s been absorbed by the fortune companies.
  • ?I’ve read that 80%-90% of ChatGPT users are on the “free” version. While the generative automation increases productivity, eventually a free ChatGPT will cease existence, as there is a cost associated with generative AI that is hidden in the cost of tokens.

Few people understand what a token is all about. It’s not a bitcoin, NFT, or a coin of anything, it’s data information, and not cheap.

  • That’s a big reason for Nvidia’s stock price, supporting LLMs, and requiring complex GPUs for maximum through-put for data when prompting generative AI.
  • But it also is the harbinger for Microsoft’s PH-3 endeavor into SLMs which run on standard CPU chips and older computers.

For your perusal, here’s the definition of AI from the Einstein AI? Digital Dictionary (available below)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) – the ability of a computer or machine to mimic human thinking, especially to discern patterns from large amounts of data. AI can be used to automate tasks that usually require human reasoning, like fraud detection or creating maintenance schedules for aircraft or cars. AI tools can help people make better decisions, like which go-to-market strategies to use for new products.?However, AI is not ChatGPT, AI is a combination of the disciplines of machine learning, computer vision, deep learning, and predictive analytics using a company’s own datasets.
