Reaffirming Our Purpose During Blood Cancer and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month This September

Written by?Yasir Nagarwala , Vice President, Global Head of Medical Affairs

Each September, the hematologic and gynecologic communities recognize Blood Cancer and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, both of which represent an important moment to underscore our solidarity with all those impacted by these debilitating, and often difficult to treat, cancers. This month, we reaffirm our support to these communities and continue to raise awareness amongst healthcare providers, those caring and supporting people with these cancers, as well as the greater public that may have little understanding of these cancers and their devastating effects.

Hematologic cancers occur in the blood and accounted for roughly 10 percent of all diagnosed cancers in the U.S. in 2021. i Despite this prevalence and medical advancements, there remains a vast unmet need for people living with these cancers. At Genmab, we have focused our efforts on developing medicines to treat multiple types of hematologic malignancies including large B-cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma and multiple myeloma.??

Additionally, we have devoted resources to providing a treatment for those with cervical cancer, a type of gynecologic cancer that occurs in a woman’s reproductive system. ii?Despite routine medical examinations and human papillomavirus vaccines helping to minimize the incidence of cervical cancer, it remains a significant medical challenge, one that inspires us to drive forth innovation to improve these women’s lives. iii,iv,v??

For more than 20 years, Genmab has been committed to understanding and supporting people living with cancer, as evidenced by our significant achievements in the research and development of medicines to treat people with cancer.?However, while we are proud of our accomplishments, there is still work to be done. We remain steadfast in our commitment to further innovate to help improve the lives of patients and their families, particularly in underserved communities.???

Rooted in science and fueled by data, we strive to provide new therapeutic solutions to those with hematologic and gynecologic conditions, so that they may have a chance to live happier, fuller lives beyond their diseases. Thankfully, we are not alone in our efforts as evidenced by the outpouring of awareness and support that is shown from these communities during September.???

While Blood Cancer and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Months are a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come, it’s also a moment to reaffirm our goal to improve the lives of people living with cancer by creating and developing innovative, differentiated and personalized antibody medicines.??
