Had an inspiring and exciting day at Ayala Evolve Summit 2017 where a room full of leaders (Banks, Insurance, Telcos, Property, Retail, etc) are looking at how to re-design their business and organization to thrive in the digital revolution wave! Thanks to @Renato Manuel Jiao for the opportunity to share my perspectives on “Human In The Age of Machines”! 

Here’s a summary of my presentation:

 (1) INDUSTRY 4.0 IS HAPPENING FASTER THAN YOU THINK

@David Lee “We took 100 years to get from farm to factory, 60 years to build-out a service economy, the Digital Revolution may only take 10-15 years. In a decade the proliferation of #Industry4.0 technologies will dramatically change the way we work, live, play.

(2) ROBOTICS & AI-DEMYSTIFIED

A world where machines do, learn, adapt and take on logical decisioning! 

My personal encounter with AI that revolutionize industries.

Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 4 - a fully automated facility from check-in, immigration (not just AI, biometrics, computer vision, ML etc) not to mention the cleaners that are now little robots. 

Mr. Iron roughneck automated the oil rig drilling – look at the revelation from the demand-employees graph and you will see a very telling message. 

Technology is getting so smart that we may be well on the path to a jobless future!

Humans need to move up the value chain. This is an era where WISDOM is our prized possession!

(3) ARE YOU READY FOR A WORLD RE-WRITTEN IN CODE?

While jobs left the factories decades ago, our mindset still remains at a narrow-minded framing of jobs - singular task is for the robots; Re-skill, Re-create jobs for the human in the age of Machines, give space for human’s imagination, after all it is the ability to Feel, Dream & Imagine that births forth new products, new services or even new industries, differentiating us from robots.

#Empathy (you will not fail if you have IQ, You will Succeed if you have EQ but you will be respected if you have LQ (love quotient). The robots of our new world with AI, ML & DL may reach a point of singularity where neutral network functions of the computer brains is as good as that of humans. What is going to set human apart from robots is the heart (intelligence comes from the brain, wisdom comes from the heart, Proverbs 4:7 in all your getting, get wisdom).

All Things Are Possible, Re-Imagine Re-Think Re-Invent, Recreate Our New World 

“Don’t Let Your Past Hold You Back From Your Future”

I recall there was one moment in time we thought to ourselves that we won’t have a chance for innovation and wealth creation; the property typhoons, the telcos, banks, hotels and airlines monopolize it all. No one, not even the characters themselves would have expected that they would bring forth disruption that caught so many by surprise. 

When Mark Zuckerberg released version one of Facebook, I dare to say he never even thought of the millions let alone have a net worth of 74 billion today. When Jack Ma borrowed money to start his business, no one could have imagined a statement like the following: “by 2036 Alibaba may be the 6th largest economy (not just a company)” would be attached to the empire he built. Someone once said that Elon Musk bet on all the losers “Electric Cars”, “Space” and “Solar”; today these are the prime jewels of industries creating sustainable energy production, responsible energy consumption and even bringing humans to Mars.

There will always be those that will keep on debating the subject of machine versus humans, I choose the path of embracing the digital future, making machines work harder for humans!

We are in exciting times, awaiting courageous men and women to take a leap into a new era. The future is still in the making – artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning will all be an important part of our fabric of the future. Let’s embrace, let’s all dream big, start small and move fast!
