Ready to Take my Perfect Resume Challenge?

Dear friends,

My resume challenge starts today.

If you haven’t done it yet, join us for this empowering 14-day challenge.

Participation is free, and anyone can join us.

The goal of the Resume Challenge is to make your resume 10x more effective in getting you interviews and job offers!

The first task of the challenge is to understand why most resumes don't do their job -- why they don't get their owners the job interviews they want.

Here are five reasons most resumes don't work:

  1. They don't make clear what kind of job you want.
  2. They aren't written with a target audience in mind. (Your target audience member is your next boss!)
  3. They don't bring across your brilliance, spark and accomplishments well.
  4. They are hard to read and/or understand, and/or
  5. They hide your triumphs behind a wall of buzzwords and corporate-speak.

Most resumes look alike. They use cliches like these:

“Results-oriented professional”

“Proven track record of working collaboratively with team members”

The problem with these overdone phrases is that almost anyone could use them.

To grab the attention of recruiters and hiring managers, you need to come out from behind the keywords and corporate jargon, and put your own voice in your resume.

I saw this problem first-hand when I ran HR departments for two decades. I saw how almost every resume looks exactly like every other resume.

That hurts you as a candidate!

This is why I created the Human-Voiced Resume? approach.

I've been teaching this approach to job candidates for over 20 years, and it works! It gets them interviews and job offers.

Watch the first video of my Perfect Resume Challenge and see if your resume makes these common mistakes.

Here's to your human voice, and your success!

Best,

Liz

Questions and Answers

What can I do to upgrade my resume right now?

Here are three things to do right now:

1) Join my Perfect Resume Challenge at the link above!

2) Decide what kind of job you want next, down to two or three target job titles. Getting clear on your target job title will let you brand yourself for the job you want.

If you're not comfortable narrowing down your job search that much right now, choose a temporary target job title to use for Step 3), below.

3) Based on the target job title you chose in Step 2 (Assistant Controller, Quality Control Specialist, Customer Support Representative, HR Director, etc.) decide who your most likely hiring manager is, by title.

If your target job title is HR Director, for instance, your hiring manager is probably an HR VP, CHRO or maybe a business leader like CEO, CFO or General Counsel.

You want to get clear on the job titles of the leaders you're most likely to report to in your next job.

Questions about these three steps? Leave your questions in the comments, below!
