Ready, Set, Go! 3 Ways to Balance Business Instability
The pandemic has taught us that sudden changes are just part of life, involuntary.
We can all attest that change and transition can be uncomfortable; however, it is key for self-growth and improvement. It teaches us to push ourselves to accept challenges with open arms and embrace uneasiness, rather than resisting it.
Moments of change and transitions can be the cause of tension, and this is because we become comfortable in our environment and routines, it is safe ground.
This the idea of stability clashes with the very nature of everything around us. In the end, isn't life itself subject to constant changes? Starting from our body, we are frequently part of an ongoing transformation that we can't stop, and it's out of our control. Responding to change with fear or denial restricts oneself from growth. This attitude only brings more stress to one's life, it prevents us from seeing things as they are, and often we make them worse.
What is the best way to face, embrace, and drive change in a business context?
1. Organizations and Leadership Culture
It all starts at the core. Companies and their leadership must create a business environment in which every person of the organization is aware that change is a constant and not an exception.
The leadership has to set forth a vision and mission based on the opportunity of embracing and thrive on change.
2. Transparency, Communication, Inclusion
The best way for people to embrace and not fear a change in a business environment is to inform and trust the leadership.
The only way for leaders to build trust is, to be honest, transparent, and include people in the process.
With visibility, trust, and guidance, people are part of a mission and don't waste their energy and time speculating on "what will happen." As the saying goes, "communication is key."
3. Readiness to Change = Opportunity
In this globalized, technology-driven fast-moving world, the only way to be competitive and succeed as a business is to accept that change is forever constant; nothing remains stable.
In this context, leadership's primary goal is to create a Change Ready Organization. With change readiness, I mean the ability to continuously initiate and respond to change in ways that create advantage, minimize risk, and sustain performance.
How can you prep your business for instability? Having an active, dynamic, transparent leadership, always ready to review, rethink, and transform the organization without fearing the change. So, don't shy away from a challenge; embrace it.
