LinkedIn offers an unmatched platform to connect with high-value prospects, showcase your expertise, and accelerate growth.

But it’s all down to the mysterious ‘algorithm’ and in this post, I summarize the latest updates so you can use them to develop your own strategy:

Content Performance Insights

  • Carousel Posts: Limit to 6-12 slides, with 30-50 words per slide for max reach. Avoid overloading with too many slides.
  • Image Posts: Perform best with 3-5 images, infographics, and short descriptive text (900-1500 characters).
  • Text Posts: Shorter text posts (600-1200 characters) perform better. Focus on structured posts with 12-20 lines and compelling hooks.
  • Video Content: Prioritize short, vertical videos (60-90 seconds), as they outperform longer formats, aligning with recent boosts to the video feed.

Posting and Engagement Strategies

  • Posting Frequency: Twice weekly is optimal. More frequent posts yield diminishing returns.
  • Engagement Window: The first two hours post-publication are crucial—reply to comments within this timeframe to maximize reach.
  • Reposts: Use 'Instant Repost' strategically to reach new audiences (80% of viewers will be new).
  • Avoid Multiple Daily Posts: Posting several times a day can dilute engagement.

Tagging and Hashtags

  • Tagging Rule of 3: Limit tags to those who are likely to engage. Tags with less than 33% engagement may reduce reach.
  • Hashtags: These are currently deprioritized and do not impact reach significantly, especially on desktop.

Timing and Structure

  • Optimal Times: Posting between 8:00-10:00 AM local time on midweek days (Tuesday to Thursday) typically sees higher engagement.
  • Use Long-Form Content Sparingly: A monthly article or long-form post maintains authority without overloading the audience.

Avoiding Over-Automation

  • Limit AI-Generated Content: Excessive AI-written posts can diminish authentic engagement, leading to reduced reach.
  • Dwell Time: Craft posts that keep users engaged (e.g., interactive or in-depth content), as dwell time remains a valuable metric, though its impact has lessened.
