Ready for Recalls?
Recalls happen in every industry - not just the recently heralded automotive recalls. Does your company and client base have robust systems and processes in place for quick, risk mitigating response? Reverse logistics is still a specialist service in the logistics world, so your current transportation/distribution provider may not have the skills sets required, regardless of their size. Effective recall programs require advance planning in a matrix environment, incorporating your suppliers and providers in addition to internal legal, supply chain and marketing groups.
The Good News: Like any business continuity risk, the costs and impact of recalls can be assessed, planned for and minimized-in advance. Ask your logistic providers for examples of their recall experience. Include recall concerns in each supplier's procurement program.
