Ready and prepared for Hurricane Helene

Ready and prepared for Hurricane Helene

Welcome! As we officially enter the autumn season, it’s an opportune time to evaluate how you can make the most impact for the rest of the year — learn about causes you care about and the organizations doing something to help, then find a way to join them. As you do, here’s a look into what Convoy of Hope is doing and links to get involved.

This week, we’re covering how to prepare for Hurricane Helene, the best combos at Chick-fil-A, and the joy of growing lush tomatoes.

Hurricane Helene

Two weeks ago, Louisiana braced for Hurricane Francine — this week, residents on the Florida coast are preparing for Hurricane Helene. The storm is projected to make landfall sometime Thursday evening. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency ahead of Helene’s arrival.?

Convoy continues to make preparations, plan the safest routes, and communicate with partners on the ground ahead of their deployment Thursday morning.?

This week, volunteers packed thousands of bags of groceries to be distributed to individuals and families impacted by the disaster — with more supplies to come based on the needs identified.

Tune in for the latest updates and make sure you and your family are prepared for the unexpected by downloading the Disaster Preparedness Guide.

From Atlanta to Springfield

Executive team members from Chick-fil-A visit the World Distribution Center to see our operations.

Convoy of Hope and Chick-fil-A — a great combo! ??

We’re honored to partner with other incredible organizations like Chick-fil-A who share the common vision to be part of the good in our communities.?

This week, team members from Chick-fil-A’s Foundation visited Convoy’s Global Headquarters & Training Center to see Convoy’s operations in action and learn how our work in Springfield, Missouri, is making a difference across the globe.?

Earlier this year — during their annual conference in Orlando, Florida — Chick-fil-A teamed up with Convoy and U.S. Hunger to pack 2 million meals in less than two hours. This was all made possible with help from thousands of Chick-fil-A owner-operators and corporate staff members.

Success in Nepal

Dhan, a participant in Convoy of Hope’s Agriculture program, beams with joy over her success in growing tomatoes, cabbage, chili peppers, and more.

In a small village in Nepal, Dhan was tirelessly cultivating crops for survival. She used to grow common food staples such as rice, millet, corn, and wheat as a main source of sustenance for herself and her family.?The cyclical nature of these crops created downtime.

Dhan shared: “This made us feel like we weren’t being productive — like we weren’t doing anything of importance. We also didn’t earn very much to save, if anything. This caused us to perpetually live in poverty.”

When the opportunity to join Convoy’s Agriculture program came, Dhan was one of the first participants to commit to the program and training. She now grows a variety of crops, including tomatoes, which are a source of consistent income.

To date, more than 110,000 individuals have trained through Convoy of Hope’s Agriculture initiatives — but there are still more communities who would benefit from access to this training.?

Want to partner with Convoy to equip people like Dhan? You can do that here.

That’s a wrap for this week’s Hope Makes It Happen! As you go, would you share this newsletter with your friends and co-workers? As you share, it gives more people a chance to give and get involved. Thank you!
