Ready for a possible electricity reductions?

The common question in this global energy crisis is, what will happen with possible reductions in electricity?
Fixed wireless and mobile broadband users mostly think that its undisturbed activity is taken for granted. “However, it is not that simple, since the power supply is crucial for devices activity,” warns the director of Softnet company Andrej Bo?tjan?i?. They are aware of the current situation, so they have already enabled an additional power supply. Therefore, it will make it possible, that mobile phones, television programs, and internet connection services will work smoothly, without breakdowns. “We are aware of the responsibility we have towards our customers. This is why we have prepared in advance for possible occasional and major power outages,” he explains.
The electricity transmission system represents a critical infrastructure for the economy and households. Electricity is not only related to direct power supply, but also affects the operation of optical cables, transmitters, and base stations. Together with electricity, the Internet network must provide stability for the smooth operation of smart manufacturing, mobile phone services, smart devices, computers, servers, etc. Supply points are now installed more often since we live in an era of copper lines, where we have optical networks. Therefore, the power supply is necessary only at both endpoints, at the provider’s and user’s nodes. In the case of short-term reductions (up to one hour), there wouldn’t be any major problems, as all providers have these UPS devices. “However, during longer outages, their batteries can be discharged. The only solution is to install a diesel electricity generator, which cannot be installed everywhere. Operators thus ensure such power supply only at key nodes. In any case, smaller points and base stations of mobile operators are problematic,” he assesses.
It is not just about planned reduction, but mostly possible systems outages due to electricity system overloads, which will be mostly consequences of higher electricity demand for heating. Therefore, it is important for companies to check with their internet provider how the internet connection works, and whether it will work even in the event of a longer power outage. “And if this is not the case, they should either demand to make an adjustment or find another operator who can do it,” advises Bo?tjan?i?.

Some of Europe’s biggest banks are preparing backup generators and dimming the lights as they prepare for possible blackouts and energy rationalization. As Russia cuts gas supplies to the old continent, banks are testing emergency situations to deal with power shortages. In Britain, rising energy costs are putting pressure on businesses and consumers, who are facing runaway inflation and bracing for potential shutdowns. “At the time of the sleet, telecommunications service providers were not prepared for an emergency situation, so many parts of the country were complete without a signal,” he finally reminds us of the situation when generators were urgently needed in certain areas of Slovenia.
