Ready Is a Myth: Embrace the Power of Now.
Have you ever found yourself waiting to feel "ready" before taking on a big challenge or chasing a dream? It's a common experience, but here's the truth: nobody is ever fully ready to do hard things for the first time. Fear and doubt are natural when stepping into the unknown. Our brains are wired for safety, not expansion. Yet, there's a part of us that recognizes golden opportunities when they appear—a spark of inspiration or a light bulb moment.
Unfortunately, our brains often counteract this by convincing us we're not ready, spinning stories that keep us in our comfort zones. This perceived safety is a fallacy; nothing beyond this moment is guaranteed. If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it's that life is unpredictable.
Overthinking our dreams leads to a cycle of self-doubt, eating away at our self-esteem, joy, and fulfillment. It keeps us from doing what we came here to do and from being who we truly are. We end up settling for what we know, waiting for an imagined "better time" to be "ready."
Consider this: research shows the top two regrets of the dying are "I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me," and "I wish I hadn't worked so hard." How do you want to feel about your life in review? How much do you care about the legacy you leave? More importantly, how willing are you to commit to creating it?
There's no time like the present. Ask yourself: what's one new action you can start taking today? What can you commit to next week?
