Ready For Either
He stood alone, almost at odds
To opt for which, was all his choice
For either or he has been called
The anti-typical, since the Fall
He stood in place, redeemed, once lost
The life now called, he was to boast
Not fame, good works nor tales
Neither shame but glory o’er Hades!
For to the fore, a visible altar
Daily to consume, the soul’s matter!
The hind, another object to ponder
A plow to which he must surrender
One must confess, be ready for either
To toil in the vineyard, no surrender
The yoke on which, his Master to serve
For quench of thirst and heat to brave
But now to the fore, this altar!
As the Saviour called to follow after
Gethsemane, even the cross as death
Before Calvary, dying to self first
So one lone bullock, in the midst, he stood
In the furrow or altar for good
How I pity his almost doldrum state
But wait; I ought to share his fate!
For such the state of God’s true child
Willing to go, whether hot or mild
To deny self, where duty calls
To sacrifice for the Redeemer’s cause.
