Reading pick: Orchestrating Transformation
I read the book Orchestrating Transformation: “how to deliver winning performance with a connected approach to change”.
The book focuses on the “how” of Transformation, with a special focus on Digital Transformation.
Here are some key take-aways, not always new for me but always a good refresh
- (Digital) Transformation is mostly about people rather than (digital) technology
- Transformation team should not “own” the Transformation projects but should more act as an orchestrator and give them visibility.
- Importance to link Digital Strategy with the general Strategy of the company and have “Guiding lines”
- Importance to focus on Value creation for the customer, either by “Cost value”, “Experience value”, or even more interesting “Platform value”. The two first ones are relatively classics... but it is the first time I saw the differentiation through "Platform" clearly put as a strategic differentiator by itself. Not a big surprise in today's world where everyone can see the power of intermediary platforms such as the well-know Facebook, Uber, AirBnB..., but having it explicitly laid out already made me rethink some go-to-market strategies.
- The non-linear approach to Change management (as opposed to Kotter 8 steps model), where one needs to orchestrate in parallel various “instruments”, described in figure below.
Last but not least, there are lots of “calls to action” throughout the book, which makes it practical. I took some away with me, which is the sign that it was a worthy reading.
And you, do you have books to recommend about Digital Transformation?

4 年Antoine Luijkx Great summary and thanks for sharing. As mentioned by you transformation is about people and more importantly the mindset of people to adapt and embrace the transformation. In that sense I would recommend the book “Infinite Game” by Simon Sinek who is focusing on the people mindset which is in principle essential for any kind of cultural change (i.e. change in people and value).
