Random tip: One piece of long-form content can turn into 30 bite-sized pieces of content that can be distributed and leveraged across your channels.
Let’s Chat D2C - Klaviyo’s Fall 2022 Product Announcements!
Klaviyo just released its Fall 2022 product announcements, full of new features and functionality that anyone in the e-commerce space needs to be aware of.
New Klaviyo APIs
They released new API endpoints for catalogs, flows, and client subscriptions:
And they updated these API endpoints for events, lists, and segments:
Google Ads Audience Targeting
Previously you could only push audiences (lists and segments) from Klaviyo to Facebook, but now you can power your Google Ads with Klaviyo data. You can retarget your unengaged audiences (i.e., hasn’t purchased in 90 days or more, cart abandoners), create lookalike audiences based on your best customers, and exclude active customers from your campaigns.
Rules-based Product Recommendations Specific to each Customer
Previously you could leverage Klaviyo to display your store’s most popular or trending products, but these were storewide and not specific to the customer receiving the email. Now, you can create a product feed that dynamically shows products the customer has recently viewed, added to the cart, or highlighted products that have just been released. You can also create fallback options so your customers always see something relevant.
And coming soon is the ability to filter by price and inventory!
And last but not least, the product editor redesign makes it SO much easier to use.
Contact Cards are finally here!
I’ve been waiting for this one! Contact cards are one of the SMS features that Attentive has had for a while that’s been a strong differentiator for them. They help with brand recognition and improve open and click-through rates. As text message inboxes start to roll out separate inbox functionality (i.e., regular vs. promotional), this will become increasingly important.
UK and Australia Two-way SMS
SMS without two-way communication is a non-starter for me since it’s such a personal form of communication. I’m super excited that in the UK and Australia, we’ll now be able to reply directly to our customer’s inbound SMS inquiries! It creates a better customer experience while allowing brands to create a more personal relationship with the customer while instilling their unique brand voice and tone.
Campaign Reporting by Segment
In a recent newsletter, I covered how we used to do this manually by duplicating campaigns repeatedly to send them into different segments. With Klaviyo’s new reporting functionality, we can send view campaign performance by individual segment without copying campaigns constantly!
Improved A/B Testing in Flows
I highlighted this in a recent newsletter as well. Before this update, you needed to manually track your flow A/B tests, pulling reporting frequently and using 3rd party statistical significance calculators to determine winning variations. Now, you can set and forget by establishing criteria for when the test should be shut off (i.e., as soon as an email has a higher statistically significant CTR, shut off the test and push 100% of customers through that email).
Convert your old Email Templates to the New Email Editor
While the new email editor is a little buggy, it has been getting better, and the benefits of the new features far outweigh the cons:
Now, instead of recreating your old email templates in the new email editor, you can convert them with one click!

What I’m Thinking About This Week - Being More Effective with Free Time
I thrive with a long to-do list, methodically checking off virtual to-dos throughout the day, but I found myself starting to flounder on the days when this list was short. I’d begin to seek out items, but no matter how many times you refresh your inbox, there’s only so much time you can waste before you realize you’re no longer being productive!
So, starting last week, anytime I have a break in the day where I’m not sure if there’s a deliverable I can be working on or if I don’t have enough time to dig into a longer-term project, I read! I’ve aggregated a collection of primarily business books and will be taking one down per week.
?When I read, I also jot down notes that I can later reflect on and see how I can potentially implement them at Electriq, building out the DRINKS App, or just in my personal life! It’s been valuable to take the concepts I’m learning from these books and test them to see whether or not they are impactful for me. It’s incredible how much I’ve already been able to implement that’s worked!
This Week’s The D2Z Podcast
#28 –?D2C Innovation in the Beverage Alcohol Industry with Zac Brandenberg
??Listen Now ??
In this week’s episode, I sat down with DRINKS CEO Zac Brandenberg to discuss the need for innovation in a highly regulated industry, beverage alcohol. Specifically, we explored:
?? The power of Shopify and its platform effects
?? Data and customer experiences
?? The DRINKS App with real-time tax and compliance
?? Some alcohol puns and much, much more!
App Highlight – Grammarly
?What is It: Cloud-based typing assistant that reviews spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity, engagement, and delivery mistakes. It also has plugins for platforms like Google Docs.
??Differentiator: It has more features and functionality than any of the competitors on the market.
??Starting Price: $12/mo billed annually.
??How we use it: Anything that requires copywriting, emails, blog posts, website updates, etc. There’s no reason to have any grammar mistakes in your copy! Not only should you be checking it yourself, but with an automated tool like Grammarly, there’s no excuse!
Book of the Week - Inspired: How to Create Tech Products that Customers Love
After the DRINKS acquisition, I knew I needed to learn more about how product organizations function and how products get built. This book came highly recommended and has laid the foundation for what I’ll be tackling internally over the next few months. Here are some of the key takeaways and questions that I jotted down.?
Key Takeaways
One of the more interesting concepts I learned about is a “fake door demand test,” where you put a button or menu item into the user experience for a potential feature you’d like to add, but you don’t build the feature yet! If the user clicks on the button or menu item, it takes them to a landing page where they can sign up to discuss this feature with you. You can then conduct customer research and interviews to see if this is something that your team should develop.
