Reading Fringe Festival
Two sculptor’s in the one studio ?
The Auditorium Cave studio is a single space, that has been splitting and multiplying, much like a just-fertilised egg cell. Each new cell has then broken away from the central cell’s vainglorious attempts at sculpture supremacy and focused instead upon its own specialisation. These specialisations include teaching, the production of low cost sculpture for the online shop, and now performance.
This latest specialised cell carries within it the beginnings of a new stone sculptor, that you won’t have met before. Variously described as louche, slightly camp, inexcusably elitist, the character falls foul of his own efforts to be PC and most certainly alienates his audience as he tries to get down with the “man and woman off the street” as he calls us.
In a series of 11, 15 minute episodes (or “interviews” as he calls them), you’ll participate in the sculptor’s research into the art of stage presentation, before going on to examine suitable subject matter for the world’s most accomplished stone sculptor. There is no shortage of celebrity participation here ; with headliners such as Micky Flanagan, Helen Sharman, Damien Hurst, Tracey Emin and Antony Gormley, all joining in.
There’s a sense of the Charles Richardson interviews with Gerrard Hoffnung in this series which is of course quite unintentional.
