The Reading Chain

I took this initiative in Pakistan to develop reading habit and reading chain among Careem Colleagues. I gifted a book to few colleagues in leadership with following note.

I hope you are doing well and enjoying the new year.

I just came across this book ‘Invent & Wander, The Collected Writings of Jeff Bezos’ and found it relevant to our business. So, I decided to gift you a copy. Through this book you can learn the lessons and secrets revealed in Bezo’s interviews, writings and the annual shareholder letters he has personally composed since 1997. Here are the four lessons that I think are the most important.

1. Focus on the long term
2. Focus relentlessly and passionately on the customer
3. Focus on the big decisions
4. Hire the right people

By gifting you this book, I also want to start the culture of book reading among Careem Colleagues. Majority of the successful people are avid readers. Elon Musk read for 10 hours each day before growing up to become Tesla CEO, Bill gates read a new book every week, Mark Zuckerberg reads one book every other week. if we read 10 pages per day, we will end up reading 3,650 pages in a year, which is like reading 9 books in a year (assuming a book consist of 400 pages).

I am sharing this book with leadership team and I request you all to give one book out to any colleague within Careem which will enable them to grow and prosper in their personal and professional lives . Share reading tips with them and ask them to share one book out of their collection with another colleague and develop this reading chain.
