Reading Aloud May Boost Memory
In this study, researchers asked nearly 100 volunteers to remember written information four different ways: reading silently; listening to someone else read it; listening to a recording of themselves reading it; and reading it aloud. They found that reading aloud proved to be the best way to remember the written information. Study co-author Dr. Colin MacLeod notes, “[The study] confirms that learning and memory benefit from active involvement… When we add an active measure or a production element to a word, that word becomes more distinct in long-term memory, and hence more memorable.” Memory, December 2017
