With the increased cost of living crisis, this Christmas is shaping up to be a difficult one for many households and communities.

?In Glasgow, there are many, many parents who are struggling to buy the essentials for their babies and children, let alone enable them to wake up on Christmas morning to a present

?This year our appeal is for you to help us raise cash and support these families at this time of need.

You can’t help but to have noticed the political turmoil in the UK.?Add into the mix that the economic situation is, as predicted by MBN, deteriorating more rapidly than other countries and you’ll arrive at the notion that we should be opening this news update with ‘Welcome to a new winter of discontent!’

?This months’ Autumn Budget delivered by Jeremy Hunt saw several important changes that were announced which may affect members of our readership.?

?A quick call around our network rapidly illustrates the issues faced.?Talented individuals will be in a position to vote with their feet and chase better pay.?Throw into the mix that Hybrid Working is now commonplace and members of your team can geographically relocate without leaving the home, and we’re likely to see a reignited war for talent.?Expect some movement in the workforce as a consequence and expect to see an increase in hiring costs to replace any lost team members.?Expect also to see a move to business restructuring and an extreme tightening of belts with a focus on reducing discretionary spend.

?When will it end?

?This is difficult to answer.?The economy in the UK is dire but it’s linked to so many additional external factors and global trends.?So with no immediate end in sight and a difficult to forecast timeline, the best advice is to ensure that the core team is looked after in a way that gives them enough comfort to ride the storm at a personal level and to engage and encourage them to help contribute ideas, effort and energy in working up ways in which margin can be enhanced through cost efficiency or, dare we say it, growth!
