The keys to successfully Reading the Room are Active Listening & Quiet Observation.

My Dad was an amazing networker, manager, and leader. He would always tell me to quietly listen for what people aren't saying because...whatever they are NOT saying is exactly what you need to know. It's the leverage. It's the thing that if you can lock in on it, pull it out, or anticipate the need...you can build a potential long lasting relationship.

• Reading the Room is about knowing you take up space, yet relinquishing that ability to hear the needs of others and then inserting yourself where needed.
• Reading the Room means sometimes you have to keep a thought to yourself because it may damage the integrity of a safe space.
• Reading the Room means comprehending sometimes the joke isn't funny at the expense of someone else.
• Reading the Room means identifying someone's pain/anger even though they won't admit it and offering compassion.
• Reading the Room means leaving the room with people being better after you left because you were there!

Show up in spaces and make things better for people. READ THE ROOM!
