Read About The Cheaper Version of ChatGPT - Does that mean if you less you pay the more stupid your AI becomes?

Here's what I loved and hated across the AOPG tech news Network Last week.

My Pick from Data & Storage Asean This week is an article titled

Customers Risk Leaving Companies That Pollute by Accumulating Unneeded Data

But maybe a better title would have been - Veritas Survey Joins Dots That Really Don't make Any Sense.

Look, I am generally supportive of companies doing research and surveys that give us genuine insight into important issues. But whoever came up with this one really is stretching it. We know that Veritas does data storage management, somehow they have used this survey to draw the conclusion that consumers are very concerned that companies who don't delete old data are ruining the environment, and these same consumers would move their business to a supplier that was more conscientious in deleting and removing old data.

The only logical conclusion we can come to, is if you use veritas to identify and archive old data - you will retain more customers. Sorry veritas, you are stretching the stats so far your leaving holes in them. 1) companies don't generally spend dollars advertising and promoting there data retention policies to consumers 2) Are these the self same consumers uploading video and pics to social platforms expecting them to be available for ever.

Veritas Technologies LLC - You have a good solution, but just accept that archiving data just isn't sexy to anyone apart from IT people that manage storage and data. Oh and if that's you, take a look at the article - it may still interest you!

Sticking with the survey theme, here is one that was supported by CyberArk , that we covered on Cyber Security Asean

87% Of Singaporean Businesses Admit to Being Victims of Identity-Based Attacks

Perhaps this is just Singaporean's being kiasu? If You are going to be a victim of an identity attack then so am I !!

But seriously, overall, this research from CyberArk and the way it is presented, which still tees up to talk about their solution is much better positioned than the Veritas one I referenced above.

Protecting online identity is something that we all need to take seriously, for IT departments its about protecting the professional identities of our staff, which these days also get intermingled with personal online identities. For anyone interested in the threats posed to online identity, take a read at this link

Changing the theme slightly, I loved this article by our journalist Khairul on decenttralyze.io

Blockchain: The Future of Healthcare, Securing Patient Data and Revolutionising Medical Systems

So what did I like so much about this article? Well The Crypto community coined the term Web3, to make blockchain sound like it will replace the current internet (It won't). But then they talk about little else other than trading crypto currencies, which is hardly the only use case for an entire new web.

Khairul has done a nice job in this write up of explaining a genuine use case for Blockchain (and hence web3) which has nothing to do with Crypto. If there is indeed going to be a web3, its will be built on these non crypto applications .

You can read what Khairul had so say at the link below

Finally on Disruptive Tech News - this article caught my eye

Hello, Dolly: Businesses Can Now Create Their Own ChatGPT Clone for USD $150

This was taken from a press release from Databricks who are launching a cheaper generative AI than Chat GPT. Does this mean if you pay less your AI get's progressively more stupid, but hey that's OK it might make mistakes but just put it on less critical tasks ?

Alright, this is my attempt at humor. the new wave of AI is now unboxed, never to be packed away again, and its incumbent on tech professionals to understand the landscape and start to learn what offerings they can use fro what applications - with that in mind taking a look at "Dolly" is worth doing
