PROACTIVE LEADER PLAYBOOK

Are you often caught in the whirlwind of daily operations, leaving your goals or improvement projects untouched and unaccomplished??

As a healthcare leader, it's easy to get swept away by urgent tasks, but it's crucial to carve out time for proactive leadership activities.

Perhaps you find comfort in the familiar chaos of day-to-day operations, drawing on your background as a clinician or technician. Or maybe you haven't empowered your staff enough to handle daily tasks independently, creating a cycle of dependency.

Sometimes, it's the state of your operations itself that pulls you deeper into the whirlwind. Without proactive leadership, issues pile up, systems falter, and the whirlwind gains momentum.

So, what's the solution??

While it's unrealistic to escape the whirlwind entirely, dedicating even a small portion of your time to strategic initiatives can yield significant results.?

Here are some steps to help you break free . . .?

Snippets from The Proactive Leader's Playbook

  • First, assess your current situation by tracking how much time you spend reacting versus proactively working towards goals. Identify what triggers pull you into the whirlwind.
  • Next, block off "vital time" on your calendar dedicated to goal and project attainment. Treat this time as non-negotiable, just like any other meeting.
  • Consider having monthly accountability meetings with your boss to track progress and address barriers. This regular check-in ensures you stay on track and motivated to prioritize strategic activities.

Remember, investing in activities that improve the future state of operations leads to calmer waters and greater achievements.?

By striking a better balance between the whirlwind and leadership, you pave the way for success in your role as a healthcare leader.

Best,
