React vs. Respond
What is one change you can make today that will dramatically improve your relationships with customers, colleagues, and your leaders?? Choosing to respond rather than react to situations.
Since the difference between the two might not be clear let’s start with the basics.
React - instantly act based without thinking, does not factor in the long term consequences
Respond - replying after considering the outcome for you and the people around you
Reacting is emotional, responding shows emotional intelligence
Consistently exhibiting that emotional intelligence will improve existing relationships and provide a solid foundation for new relationships.? Since success is never a solo achievement, it is vital that we grow and sustain relationships with the people around us. ?
Napoleon Hill states in his book, Master Key to Riches, “it is a great day in any person’s life when he [or she] recognizes the fact that success or failure throughout life is largely a matter of control over his [or her] emotions.”?
Having control over your emotions and maintaining a positive attitude for an extended period of time is needed to achieve any significant goals.
On a larger scale, imagine how many societal issues would be greatly improved if most or all people lived by this principle.? The only person you can control is you, but you can help influence many people in a positive way.
Will you choose to respond rather than react when a situation arises?
