Reaching Professional Success

I attended a lecture a while back by a successful professional with a reputation that exceeds him: Faris Alshareef, Head of Management Info, Planning and Analysis, SABB.
His lecture focused on his personal journey that got him where he is today, and following are a few points to summarize what he explained:
1. Surround yourself with successful, positive people who will only bring you higher.
2. Dedication and consistency are the biggest keys to accomplishing what you truly want.
3. Talk about your dreams to the great people you worked hard to surround yourself with, because they could very well become part of your journey and help you accomplish them.
4. Creating and implementing steps are important in order to make dreams a reality. Unless you write something down and envision it, it will always remain a dream.
5. Before you specialize in something, find the gaps in your intended market. Research what the country needs in order to make sure that you will find a job instead of being told “we are not hiring”.
6. Find a mentor and learn from others. People around you always have something to offer to your knowledge, so make sure you benefit from that.
Finally, Mr. Faris shared the most important part: “Reaching your professional happiness is a journey that must be planned.” With that, it needs time and the ability to really sit with yourself and plan ahead, because that is what will get you to the true place you’ve always dreamed of reaching.
