Reaching for the clouds!

What’s up with the IBM public cloud for the financial industry. Ok, I do understand that you are thinking: IBM’s public cloud?? And I do understand that sentiment. So, let me explain a bit more about IBM’s cloud and why the financial industry can benefit from it. In many conversations I explain that IBM provides a top-notch public cloud and why it is relevant for them.

For starters the public cloud provides the essential tools you need to get all the benefits of the cloud, with control and flexibility. Using these tools to create modern and compliant core applications with the best technology and any environment of their choice.

It is a true hybrid multi-cloud environment that gives you the ability to run and manage your data and applications on the cloud of your choice. Yes yes, don’t worry you can also keep using AWS, Azure, Google etc.  That’s how we operate and provide a freedom of choice. IBM’s expansive software has been optimized to run on Red Hat OpenShift, the industry’s most comprehensive Kubernetes platform. We also completed a two-year journey to rebuild the IBM public cloud on a foundation of open source software, security leadership and enterprise-grade infrastructure for running our clients’ core businesses.

Taken together, clients now have the unique ability to build mission-critical applications once and run them anywhere. Even more important you now have a better control on your estate. Basically, it works for multiple people in the organization, especially when you are (trying) to adopt the DevOps way of working.

  •  Developers can use the toolchain they need
  • Operations can manage seamlessly
  • Financial tribe can predict costs
  • The risk & compliance-people can sleep
  • And the business finally knows what they are paying for….

It solves a lot of organisational challenges, however a platform that provide preventative and compensatory controls for financial services regulatory workloads, multi-architecture support and proactive and automated security, it will not solve your cultural aspect of the digital transformation. Many times, it is overseen or underestimated. Eventually if you want to drive innovation your whole team needs to be on board. Fundamentally rethinking the values that power your organization requires adopting new organizational models and behaviors. This will be one of the topics discussed by Red Hat during the Annual Member Summit on 30 January 2020 that will be held @IBM in Amsterdam. We will also address, AI, Trust and the importance of having a profound eco-system. The program will start with a 2020 outlook presented by Don Ginsel, founder of Holland FinTech.

You can find the whole program here. If you are a member you can sign up and if you are not, just become a Holland FinTech member.

Let’s reach for the clouds together while keeping both feet on the ground.  Hope to see you there and have a drink afterwards. If you cannot make it, don't worry, I will give an update in my next blog!

Great topics to cover coming Thursday...looking fwd!
