REACH OUT....
It is time to build bridges....too much division is occurring in our country. It has only gotten wider, and with it more distrust and misunderstanding. I fear that this rift is not helped by our isolation from each other right now and because of social media propaganda which at times is nothing but a gossip hotline on steroids.which only divides us further if we are not cautious. What we are learning, I hope, is that the more we are divided, the more estranged we are from others, the greater the fear on all sides. Sure there are dirtbags on all sides, but the only way we will survive as the human race, the only way our country will truly survive is to be a bridge, to reach out and try and understand each other whether we are red or yellow black or white, or even polka dotted. What we need at all levels is compassion, empathy, and humility. It is easy from a distance to pass judgement on those who seem different than us, different in appearance, different in language, and different in culture, and those perceived differences create fear for someone. In the days ahead we are going to have to get up, walk away from our keyboards and greet other human beings face to face. We need to listen, not to reply but to deeply understand. And in so doing not to try and label them: Are they republican, or are they democrat, or whatever? It is interesting that when you can meet other people, a stranger like this and when it is mutual, you will realise that they are not that different than you...they are human. They bleed when you cut them, they grieve when they lose someone they love...they even have hopes and dreams like you or me. I say enough with political posturing and disgusting mean talk and hate responses to people you do not even have a single clue about. Enough. Some things...this very thing I am writing about are far bigger than political position. When we all die and go to heaven do you think they will ask us what political party we belong to? Or will God ask us how we have reached out to love the stranger in our midst.....
