Aligning Organizational Structure with Vision and Values
In the quest for success, organizations often ask themselves, “Do we reflect the image we aspire to project?” It’s crucial to examine whether our internal priorities align with the future we envision.
Is the external image we wish to portray—a commitment to delivering customer value, prioritizing people, being the employer of choice, acting as good corporate citizens, and promoting sustainable development—truly mirrored by our internal setup??
Consider these statements that organizations frequently uphold: “We deliver value to the customer,” “People are our number one priority,” “We strive to be the employer of choice,” “We are committed to being good corporate citizens,” and “We support the Sustainable Development Goals.”
How do organizations deal with challenges?
However, under economic pressures or unexpected challenges, actions often diverge from these ideals. For instance, when the stock market crashes, one of the first responses might be to lay off employees who have significantly contributed in the past. Does this reflect the belief that people are our greatest asset?
Similarly, when faced with difficulties, companies may retreat from community commitments without fully understanding the long-term impact. How does this align with the aspiration of being a respected corporate citizen?
Bridging the Disconnect
?The gap between an organization’s future image and its internal structure is similar to an athlete aspiring to reach the Olympics while neglecting their health and well-being. Just as an athlete must maintain rigorous training and healthy habits to achieve their goals, organizations need to ensure their internal operations and culture are in harmony with their stated values and ambitions.
