Me, Going to College? Part 14

When I got off of the trolley at Georgia Avenue and Florida Avenue, I walked the rest of the way past Miners Teacher College dormitory to my classes at Howard University.

Next to Howard University was Miners Teacher College, a colored teachers' college where colored women attend to become teachers and to get their degrees.

I had often dreamed of being a schoolteacher, but I decided to stick with the Scribers offer because I was assured of a good job after I graduated.

I also knew that as the Scribers got older and with no children, they may consider me to run their businesses.

On Sundays, I would take the day off but be right back up on Georgia Avenue to go to the Howard Theater to see the latest chitterling circuit musicians and troubadour bands.

Next Sunday @ 3 AM - Part 15

Me, Going to College?

They would come through town from playing shows in the big cities of New York and Chicago. I had a ball there and I tried to see every group that played at the Howard Theatre.
