Re-inventing your future is challenging. ??♀?

Re-inventing your future is challenging.?

?

You could have any number of reasons propelling you to make a change. Maybe you no longer find your career fulfilling or you want to spend more time with your family and kids. Maybe you’re becoming a mother for the first time or your current situation just isn’t sustainable.?

?

No matter the reason, change is hard.

?

And determining what that change will look like – what steps to take next – is even harder.

?

Sadie St. Lawrence , community builder extraordinaire and Founder and CEO of?Women in Data, shares some advice and lessons learned from her own experience leaving Corporate America and re-inventing her future.

?

“Take some time to get quiet and get to know yourself. You have all the answers you need inside of you. We each have the ability to create the life we want to live.”

During a career transition, big or small, it’s important to reflect on yourself. What’s making you happy? What’s not? What do you want in life, now and in the future?

In?one of my favorite podcast episodes?to date, I talk with Sadie about her unique path to leadership in the field of data science, the future of AI, and the importance of building community.

?

Building a community in the workplace is important for productivity, but building a community outside the workplace is important for your well-being. It fosters connection and offers a collective space for experience sharing.?

?

In the podcast, Sadie shares,?“Pulling together a team or having a community is great, but we need to know ourselves… Getting solid in your foundation is first and foremost important.”?

?

For Sadie, the need for community was personal: “[Women in Data] really started with my own personal need for community. If I was going to survive in this field, I knew I needed to be surrounded by others who were diverse thinkers and also had that same passion.”?

?

Community is critical to our overall well-being. Our small circles of people are important – like our family, friends, and even our network – but we need larger circles as well. Our health and happiness are inextricably linked with our connections.

?

Being part of a community makes you better: a better leader, a better learner, and a better person.

?

So, before you find – or better yet, build – your community, get quiet and get to know yourself.
