RE-Generation International Youth Film Festival is coming to Melbourne Fringe in October '24!

SBN is pleased to announce that the 4th RE-Generation International Youth Film Festival will be a part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival this year, in partnership with the Banksia Foundation , 澳大利亚蒙纳士大学 and Eco Voice.

We are so honoured to again welcome Ian Redmond OBE as RIYFF's Global Ambassador and I'm most grateful to continue our festival's annual collaboration with LA International Children's Film Festival, One Earth Young Filmmakers Contest & San Diego International Children's Film Festival in USA.

In celebration of RIYFF being on the Melbourne Fringe Festival program for the first time, we will be screening a special curation of the ‘Best Shorts of the Decade’, so as Festival Director, I am on the search for amazing short films from young emerging filmmakers, as well as professional cinematographers and animators for both RIYFF’s general program and our ‘Best of the Best’ from the last decade for the special screening at the RIYFF ’24 Awards Evening.

The RE-Generation International Youth Film Festival is an annual event that showcases over 50 short films across the categories of animation, documentaries, live action and music videos. This unique film fest provides a rare platform for the work of young creatives and change-makers to be seen and appreciated alongside multi award-winning filmmakers from around the world.

The curation is carefully chosen to ensure a wonderful family experience that sends our audiences home feeling uplifted and inspired.

So, where do we go after the Z Generation – back full circle to the Alpha Gen on repeat? What we need to be fostering and mentoring now is the RE-Generation, the RESILIENT AND EMPOWERED generation who are taking on greater challenges than all the previous generations of humanity. Film is such a powerful medium to influence young minds - the media is overflowing with dystopian content and it’s easy to see the many things that are wrong with our world. However, the RE-Generation International Youth Film Festival is all about sharing ideas, innovations and benchmarks for creating positive outcomes for our individual and collective challenges, and for creating the world we all wish to live in.

RIYFF has a particular focus on films created for young people, by young people that address contemporary issues through innovative storytelling. The core aim of this film festival is to encourage our young generation, both as filmmakers and as audiences, to engage with important social, environmental and cultural issues through the lens of thought-provoking, solution-focused and uplifting content, which imparts a sense of resilience and empowerment.
