Re-Education May Help Those with Back Pain

Past studies have demonstrated that an individual’s beliefs about their back condition play a significant role in their pain experience and response to treatment. Investigators recently set out to re-educate 50 adults with a history of low back pain and then re-educate them about the poor correlation between aging and spinal pain. The investigators found that shifting beliefs regarding low back pain and aging resulted in improvements related to pain, fear avoidance, and range of motion among participants. The findings suggest that patient re-education should be a part of the treatment process for patients with lower back pain. Aging Clinical and Experimental Research, December 2017
