The Re-birth of Internal Combustion Engines
Between being eco-friendly and having summit efficiency, electrified cars will carry the future lead in vehicle industry. It seems that Internal Combustion Engines is getting ready for retirement and the torch will be handled to its rival.
Many manufacturers announced hindering the use of Internal Combustion Engines within the following couple decades. Ford Motor Company announced that a developed hybrid versions of F-150 and Mustang best-selling performance car will be lunched early. Volvo declared that all of its future automobile will be hybrid. Overall, banning combustion power is the future desire of most vehicle manufacturers…However, Mazda will volatile of scales toward gas and diesel-powered engines by its new innovation technology “Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition”.
Many reasons leads diesel engines to superiority compared to gasoline ones. Diesel fuel is denser than petrol and contains about 15% more energy by volume. Higher stroke to bore ratio {that can surpass 20:1 verse most petrol ones that ranges between 7:1 to 12:1} results in higher torque from low RPMs. All the gratitude goes to sparkless combustion. Higher compression ratios increases pressure and heat, allowing in tern the air-fuel mixture temperature to rise above self-ignition temperature.
There are some exceptions as in new Infinity’s variable Compression Ratio mechanism of the connecting rode, that raises C.R. to 15:1, but it’s still lower than sparkless powered engines.
Gas and diesel-powered engines are not done yet. Mazda announced a breakthrough in gasoline engines that could make them far more efficient. So, Mazda tried Mimicking diesel’s sparkles self-ignition combustion by using high compression ratio with ultra-lean mixture and eliminating spark-plugs, calling this new combustion method “Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition”
20 to 30% more efficient H.C.C.I. will be greater than today’s best existing engines. The efficiency gain comes with the ability to operate using a very lean mixture; very little gas for the amount of air burned; that a typical spark-ignition engine cannot burn cleanly. NOx emissions is favored by high temperatures however the ultra lean mixture will result in low combustion temperatures and in tern lower NOx emissions. This engine will gain efficiency of diesel combustion but with lower emissions.
2019 is a year of Internal Combustion Engine restoration carried by Mazda’s innovation technology. The noises of these engines will keep withstanding amongst the silence of electric cars, and cheering all its enthusiasts.
