A Ray of Hope for Pancreatic Cancer Patients

A Ray of Hope for Pancreatic Cancer Patients

Five year survival rates of a mere 5% has been the sad statistic for years for pancreatic cancer patients.  Now there is a new number that may bring hope:  four.

Researchers at Glasgow University have identified four different types of pancreatic cancer.  Some of these types, or subtypes, have similarities to other known and more treatable cancers.  Fingers are crossed as the researchers determine if the treatments already available and effective with these other cancers are equally effective with pancreatic cancer.

Carolyn, I just checked them out and you are right - the "cell in a box" approach sounds totally amazing! And while they still have to complete the all important Phase III they are far enough along to make this look more hopeful than many we've heard about before. Thanks so much for sending it to me :=)

Maura, Take a look at Pharmacyte Biotech. They are using live cell encapsulation or "cell in a box" nanotechnology to treat pancreatic cancer and possibly diabetes. It's facinating.
