Ray of hope
While I was traveling for work, I found myself on a bus one sunny Morning. The gentle hum of the engine and the rhythmic motion of the vehicle had lulled many passengers into a peaceful state. Among them was a young boy, no older than 11 or 12, clad in a neatly pressed school uniform, fidgeting with his backpack. I could tell he was in the 5th or 6th grade, judging by his size and the unmistakable insignia on his shirt.
As the bus made its way through the bustling city streets, a rather disheartening incident unfolded. We were stopped at a red light, and the boy, who had been gazing out of the window, suddenly became agitated. His sharp eyes had caught something that the rest of us had seemingly missed.
There, on the sidewalk, a man in his late thirties or early forties had just finished his on-the-go meal and, without a second thought, carelessly tossed the empty food packet onto the pavement. The boy's youthful voice, charged with righteous indignation, broke the tranquil atmosphere."Hello!" he exclaimed, his voice cutting through the ambient noise of the bus. "Don't you understand that you should put it in the garbage bin?"
The man, who had been oblivious to the young passenger's observations, appeared unfazed by the sudden interruption. He simply ignored the boy's admonishment, continuing to walk as if nothing had happened. The bus lurched forward as the traffic light turned green, carrying us further down the road. I shifted my gaze between the boy and the receding figure of the littering man. What struck me most was the depth of emotion that had welled up in the boy's eyes.
Sitting there, I couldn't help but admire the young boy's unwavering commitment to the environment. His outburst was a testament to the passion and concern that many in his generation felt for the planet. It was a poignant reminder that the actions of some adults were contributing to the degradation of the environment, leaving an indelible mark on the minds of the youth who would inherit the Earth. The boy's earnest plea for responsible behavior was a ray of hope in a world where indifference and carelessness often seemed to hold sway.
