“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”
-Charles Swindoll
The current pandemic crisis has helped each one of us ‘discover’ some hidden or new traits that we are unaware of. In fact, I never knew that I was capable to manage things with increased multi-tasking skills, in order to find a way out of every tiny challenge in my day-to-day activities, be it work or home!:)
I came across several articles that talk about ‘Resilience’ as one of the powerful traits during this global crisis. Psychological resilience is the ability to mentally or emotionally cope up with a crisis or to return to pre-crisis status quickly. Resilient individuals are better able to handle such adversity and rebuild their lives after a catastrophe. Some individuals come by these abilities naturally, with personality traits that help them remain unflappable in the face of challenge.
Social support is another critical variable that contributes to resilience. Mentally strong people tend to have the support of family and friends who help bolster them up in times of trouble.
Few simple steps that I have been focusing on to become more resilient are:
· Be Optimistic, this too shall pass..
· Re-frame Your Thoughts, it's the need of the hour
· Seek Support and offer help when needed
· Focus on What You Can Control
· Bring in a Sense of Humor, mostly PJs for me:)
· Take Care of Yourself with lots of 'me' time
Developing a positive outlook, having a strong support system and taking active steps to make things better can go a long way toward becoming more resilient in the face of life's challenges. Resilient people also see the positives in most situations and believe in their strength.
Life is full of challenges. While we cannot avoid many of these problems, we can remain open, flexible, and willing to adapt to change. ‘We have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.’
