The average interest on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage passed 7% on Monday for the first time since December 2023—topping out at 7.04% according to Mortgage News Daily. While interest rates are expected to fall as 2024 rolls on, January’s low unemployment and strong economic activity worked together to rapidly push rates up—shrinking affordability and accessibility this week.?
