RATAN TATA
The former chairman of Tata Sons, the parent firm of the Tata Group, one of the biggest and oldest corporations in India, Ratan Tata is an industrialist and philanthropist from India.
Early Life and Education : Ratan Tata, the great-grandson of Tata Group founder Jamsetji Tata, was born in Bombay on December 28, 1937. After completing his education in Mumbai, he studied architecture at Cornell University in the United States and subsequently enrolled in Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.
Career : Ratan Tata began working for the Tata Group in 1961 and held positions in a number of the conglomerate's businesses. In 1991, he took over as chairman of Tata Sons, replacing J.R.D. Tata. The business saw substantial expansion and globalization under his leadership, resulting in the acquisition of other worldwide enterprises such as Tetley, Corus, and Jaguar Land Rover.
Philanthropy : Well-known for his charitable endeavors, Ratan Tata has supported rural development, healthcare, and education through the Tata Trusts, which own a sizable stake in Tata Sons. He has backed several projects in the fields of infrastructure, education, and healthcare in addition to participating in a large number of humanitarian endeavors.
Awards and Honors : For his services to the industry and charity, Ratan Tata has been recognized with several accolades and prizes. Two of India's greatest civilian awards, the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, are among them.
Retirement : Despite leaving his position as chairman of Tata Sons in 2012, he is still involved with the company in a number of ways, most notably as chairman emeritus of Tata Sons and Tata Group. He is still a significant figure in Indian business and philanthropy.
