Rapid Saddle: What is Delta Protekt?

I think we can all agree that surface finishes are an incredibly important part of any installation. We’re all familiar with the more common of these; hot dip galvanised, bright zinc plated (BZP) and the simplest of all, self-colour.

But what happens when something new hits the market and how do you know you can trust it?

In our opinion here at Metpro Group, responsibility is firmly on the manufacturer to help their customers and the industry understand why anything new is up to the task.

Enter Delta Protekt? 120; the chosen finish on our external-use Rapid Saddles.

The history of Delta Protekt? 120 in 30 seconds or less

Effectively a brand-new finish for the electro-mechanical sector, this specialised coating has been in use for a number of years.

Beginning life as part of offshore wind turbine systems, Delta Protekt was an ideal solution on fasteners due to its thin and smooth finish which didn’t clog up the threads, as well as providing an extremely high anti-corrosive finish, critical in the harsh ocean environment.

From here, Delta Protekt’s non-thread-clogging properties saw it move into the automotive industry where once again, it was on fasteners that this specialised finish was of significant benefit as part of the engine systems.

Fast-forward to 2020 and our first stocks of both the BZP and external-use Delta Protekt Rapid Saddle arrive, before going through rigorous internal quality checks, eventually leading to their final destination; Metpro shelves, ready for sale.

What is Delta Protekt?

Similar to the more traditional hot dip galvanised finish, Delta Protekt is a sacrificial surface coating and features a zinc flake base coat.

It is the characteristic properties of zinc which provide what’s known as cathodic protection; causing a metal structure to act as an electrical cathode in order to protect it from corrosion.

Essentially designed for saline-heavy environments, the Demon Cato Rapid Saddle features Delta Protekt? 120, offering a comparable corrosion resistance to Class 4 hot dip galvanising, and is also salt spray tested to 500+ hours.

Why use the Delta Protekt Rapid Saddle?

As well as the labour-saving benefits of this innovative product, Rapid Saddle has been purpose-designed with a deep 5mm base, offering the same stand-off as traditional distance saddles, meaning a fast-fix solution, even on uneven walls and outdoor applications.

Additionally, Rapid Saddle provides greater on-site safety, particularly when working at height and is also included as part of the Demon Cato Steel Conduit System which now comes with an extended 5-year warranty (get in touch if you'd like more information).

I hope that this article has provided some confidence in what we believe is a fantastic new finish for our industry. If you would like to learn more, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
