Here at Rapid Racking, we are excited to celebrate World Book Day and present to you all what we have read in the past. As a rapid family, all of our members have had the opportunity to pick their 'all time' favourite books and say a little about what to expect when reading some of these fantastic stories. Maybe one of these books could be your next Thrill...

"A PAGE TURNER! It will keep you gripped!"?

Hidden Valley Road by Robert Kolker

This isn’t my usual choice, but it is very interesting. A mix of educational learning about medical practices and real life trials and tribulations of what this family and the 12 children went through.??

The book is a true story and gives an account of the Galvin family of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a midcentury American family with twelve children, six of whom were diagnosed with schizophrenia.?

Gone With The Wind by Margret Mitchell

"An outstanding classic book and film to bring to the table."

One of the most heart ripping romantic stories suggested by Jen at Rapid Racking Kemble. For those of you who don't know, it's a romantic story about the American Civil War where protagonist, Scarlett O'Hara, survives the war while being motivated by her true love for Ashley Wilkes.

Holes by Louis Sachar

A great Suggestion from Logan, Holes is choice of his since a young age. He quotes "my teacher from primary school read me this book and ever since I have re-read it time and time again"

A poor boy, who accidently steals an expensive pair of shoes, finds himself sentenced to prison in a place called Camp Green Lake where day be day he is forced to dig holes. Something doesn't seem right and the teens serving their sentence begin to reveal some dirty secrets.

Song Of The Lioness Series by Tamora Pierce

Another great suggestion from Jen. Based around female lead, Alanna of?Trebond, who wants a life full of adventure so trades places with her twin brother to become a knight (rather than being sent off to a convent). Highly recommended for those who enjoy fantasy books.

The series contains four books with four unique adventures that tie into one magnificent story. Since the original release of the books back in 1980, there have been several cover revamps which definitely suit the theme of a young adult fantasy story.

Morgan, now a part of an off the books cyber-terrorism prevention unit, must do everything to stop its spread. This is a new kind of war: different goals, tactics, rules, stakes. The book is gripping could not put it down. The authors are so knowledgeable about the cyberterrorism that it really does bring the story to life! The lead character Ben is really likeable and you get so drawn in to what is happening and are backing him and the team all the way.

Time's Arrow by Martin Amis

A book written in reverse time. When the central character eats, the food comes out of his mouth and arranges itself neatly on the plate. As he smokes, his cigar gets longer. Eventually we learn he’s a Nazi war criminal who has escaped justice. In the later/earlier scenes in the concentration camp, he carries out medical experiments which, because time is running backwards, miraculously “cure” people of terrible ailments and injuries. A Suggestion from Barry.

Good Omens by Terry pratchett and Neil Gaiman

A solid recommendation from Matt King over in our Rapid Warehouse. A classic choice, Matt quotes "My old and battered copy of Goods Omens, two of my favorite authors. Great bit of escapism and very funny, especially needed in these times".

Give this book a chance if you love reading older books with a comical twist. This seemed to of brightened Matt's day when he had the opportunity to read this!

Rapid's Inspiration of the day

As you all know, children love to get involved with world book day and as parents we enjoy encouraging our children to read everyday. Educational books are important but we want our younger ones to be creative and branch out in the fantasy world of fictional books. For example, Harry potter is a well-known fantasy story that contains lots of educational morals but most of all it's packed with fun and crazy wizardry for all ages to enjoy and get hooked into.

Speaking of Harry Potter, our "Inspiration" for World Book Day is shown in this brilliant photo of our team members daughter reading a chapter of Harry Potter underneath a stair cupboard! I guess she wondered what it must of been like for Harry to live under there for so long. She's even got her Harry Potter suitcase and uniform ready to use for her new adventure as an official Hogwarts Student.
