Ransomware: Big Threat to Your Data !
What is Ransomware?
Ransomware is a type of Virus/Malware software that prevents users from accessing their files on their computer by encrypting them unless a ransom is paid to the hacker.
How does it spread?
It primarily spreads through spammed e-mails. E-mail either would contain infected document or a url link pointing to a site that will download ransomware.
How to prevent Ransomware from encrypting your data?
- Backup your data regularly and keep a recent copy of backup data off-site.
- Don’t open e-mails from unknown users. These emails might contain an attachment infected with ransomware.
- Don't open a link in a spam e-mail.
- Don’t enable macros in document attachments received via e-mail.
- Login with limited user account for day to day work. If you are logged in with admin privilege on your computer, ransomware would immediately get admin account privilege and encrypt data.
- Ensure anti-virus is installed and updated.
