We rank elected officials

We just launched the Builders Power Rankings, a weekly dashboard that ranks elected officials like professional athletes. What helps leaders score points isn’t how outlandish they behave or how often their names appear in headlines — it’s how effective they are at doing what the American people elected them to do: actually solve problems.?

Each week, we have a cross-partisan panel talking about that week’s events. This week’s panel features Andrew Yang, Founder of the Forward Party; Kara Swisher, host of On with Kara Swisher and co-host of Pivot; and the Hon. Karl Rove, Former Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor in G.W. Bush’s administration.

Make It A Habit: Step out of your comfort zone

“I cannot find common ground without stepping out of my comfort zone. I cannot build a bridge without offering my hand.”

Last week at the International Black Film Festival, our Movement Partner Leon Ford invited attendees to recite this powerful pledge following a screening of our documentary The Tennessee 11. Alongside cast members Brandi, Mark, William, and Ron, Leon led a discussion about what comes next for these citizens who found common ground on gun rights and safety.

In 2012, Leon was mistaken for another man and shot by police, resulting in paralysis. Today, he works to bridge divides between law enforcement and the community. Like the Tennesseans who joined him on stage, Leon inspires us to take action — even when it’s uncomfortable and the challenges feel insurmountable. For him, great power lies in asking the question, “What’s next?”?
