Random Acts of AI: Why Unstructured Use at Work is a Growing Concern

It was the fall of 2022, and I was planning to teach Media Writing in the spring semester of 2023 when ChatGPT went public. At the time, most people in my professional network feared it would eliminate content writing and creative jobs. In academia, the concerns were about cheating and the very future of education.

Clients and employers demanded statements confirming that workers and contractors would commit to not using Gen AI in our work. Schools made students and teachers pledge not to use or even teach about it.?

Back then, not many truly understood the technology.

Fast forward a couple of years, and while we've come to rely on it for pulling together information, it's still widely misunderstood and often misapplied. Now, there are fears of misinformation, hallucinations, creative integrity, data privacy, and loss of humanity in our work.

In less than 24 months, people went from fearing an unfamiliar, uncontrollable force to using it casually for work. Unstructured Gen AI use has become part of the daily workflow.

These random acts of AI now pose a considerable risk.

Human-piloted AI use is skyrocketing, but are your employees using it responsibly?

According to Gartner, 70% of organizations will adopt AI for internal communication by 2025. Grammarly also reports that 80% of workers say Gen AI improves the quality of their work, but 52% don't know how to use it effectively.

A study by Ragan and Ruder Finn reveals a significant gap in AI's application within executive messaging, positioning, and employee engagement in internal communications.

It's time you use Gen AI strategically to improve communication and foster a more connected, productive workforce. Close the gaps for your organization, paving the way for increased productivity, employee satisfaction, and retention.
